SERMI is now active across the UK automotive industry — and it’s changing how secure diagnostic work gets done.
An increasing number of tasks now fall under SERMI restriction: immobiliser and key programming, ECU coding, secure gateway access, and certain ADAS calibrations. These operations require full SERMI authentication before they can legally be carried out.
Here’s what most bodyshops don’t realise yet.
Remote diagnostic providers — including well-known names like Repairify, Osca and Core — can only carry out SERMI-restricted work if the technician physically present on the vehicle is also SERMI-approved. Both ends of the connection must be authorised. If your workshop isn’t SERMI-approved, your remote supplier cannot legally complete immobiliser, key, coding, secure gateway or secure ADAS calibration work for you — regardless of their own accreditation.
